Jesus, Lord of All Creation

Dear Church Family and Community,

 

When you think of Jesus, what comes to mind? Is it who Jesus is: Lord; God; Savior; Redeemer; Friend; Emanuel; Lamb of God; Messiah; Light of the World; Alpha and the Omega? Or is it who Jesus has been to you: love; mercy; grace; forgiveness; peace; compassion; healing; rest; faithfulness; patience?

The names and character of Jesus are a blessing to all who follow Him. His names reveal to us His power. His attributes unveil His heart for us. Jesus is the God of the Universe who came to reconcile us and all things to God. Jesus is the Lord of Creation who lived and loved to show us how to live and love to bring honor and glory to God.

Jesus is the Lord of all Creation. However, when we think of who Jesus is and what Jesus does (or has done), we may not often think of Him as Creator. We see the Genesis narrative as the Father making the world and all that we see (and don’t see). However, to see the Father is to see Jesus. Jesus comes to reveal the Father and does what the Father does. Therefore, if the Father is Creator God, the Son must be as well.

In his letter to the Colossians, Paul reminds them and us that Jesus was the agent in creation, taking an active role in all things that were created. Reflecting on this passage, William Barclay once wrote that Jesus is the agent of creation in the beginning, the goal of creation in the end, and the One who holds the world together in this time, between the beginning and the end.

This week we will continue our Miracle: Making God Known series by learning about Jesus the Creator. Last week we began our series by looking at God the Creator. We focused on the Genesis creation story. We learned that God desires deeply to make Himself known to us. We were reminded that to see God is to see Jesus, and to see Jesus is to see God. We were challenged to not forget the wonder of creation, how God created, why God created, and the who (God) in the creation story. In preparation for this week’s service, please take time to read and pray through Colossians 1:15-23 and John 1:1-18. As you read, ask and answer: Who is Jesus? What is the significance of Jesus being Creator God? How does Jesus being Creator impact how you view and understand his power over all of His creation? What is God creating in you today, to reveal Himself to your world?

Lastly, in our services this week, we will be having a Sending Prayer for Alissa Patterson. Alissa is a daughter of not just Pastor Patty and Kirk, but also of our church. As her former Youth Pastor, it has been a great joy and blessing to see her grow in her faith and transform into the pastor God has called her to be. It is with sadness we say goodbye this week as she heads out to minister in Kansas, but it is also with prayers and excitement as she serves the kingdom and God’s children at her new church.
